Building Better Opportunities Breakthrough Programme
North Warwickshire Citizens Advice is delivering the Building Better Opportunities Breakthrough Programme, joint funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund, and supported by a multi-agency team made up of core local delivery partners.
Between 2016-2019, Breakthrough will help 525 out of work people across Coventry and Warwickshire to tackle the financial barriers they face to gaining and sustaining employment, accessing education and training, and taking a full and active role in their local community.
Feedback suggests that being in debt can:
- make people feel overwhelmed; those on low incomes struggle to make ends meet, and many have very little capacity to save, quickly getting into debt when faced with unexpected expenditure or a sudden drop in income.
- impact people’s mental health and wellbeing and their levels of confidence and self-esteem.
- create significant barriers to moving forward more positively in their lives.
In response, a team of ‘Money Mentors’ will be deployed into wards with high numbers of out of work residents who are experiencing poverty and disadvantage. The support will be client centered, tailored to individual needs, encourage their aspirations and aim to promote self-help. After an initial assessment of the barriers and needs, participants will develop and follow a personal action plan, identifying the key tasks and milestones that will help move them towards finding employment or accessing training.
