North Warwickshire Citizens Advice (NWCA) is currently recruiting a Community Energy Advisor for an exciting new Energy project in Warwickshire.

Location: Atherstone, North Warwickshire/Outreach Locations

Salary: £26,741,55 pro-rata (£13.90 hourly rate)

Hours per week: 15 hours per week

Type of contract: Fixed Term – Project end date March 31st, 2028

NWCA provides a free, independent, impartial and confidential advice and advocacy service to the citizens of North Warwickshire, a rural area covering an area of 110 square miles. NWCA also recruit and train volunteers to carry out casework with clients. NWCA research and campaign on issues affecting clients and the voluntary sector and contribute towards the development of the third sector in North Warwickshire and the county.

 

Role purpose:

As a Community Energy Advisor, you will have an essential role in helping individuals and families understand and manage their energy use to save money and stay warm.

You will inform and support clients who access the service for help with a range of issues relating to the current energy crisis, including energy efficiency, meters, billing, behaviour change and renewable energy.

Your will work in a dedicated Energy Hub in our office in Atherstone and attend Outreach locations in and around North Warwickshire offering information, advice and support to clients.

You will help with income maximisation, identify energy grant support, help access fuel vouchers, Carbon Monoxide awareness and support clients to take practical steps to tackle fuel poverty.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, adaptable, and a flexible team player, with excellent communication skills. You will be required to deliver energy related advice session to community groups across the County.

We offer a friendly and welcoming work environment – this role is office based when not working at Outreach or MAC locations.

Job Description

 

The purpose of the post is to provide information and advice to clients who access our service for help with energy related issues. You will offer practical information and advice on a broad range of issues including maximising income, Carbon Monoxide awareness, priority service registration, practical energy saving tips and support with fuel vouchers. As Community Energy Advisor you will support the energy team at outreach events and the MAC pop-up sessions.

 

Knowledge and Experience

Experience of working in an advisory setting is desirable but not essential. Training will be provided. You should have experience of or willingness to work in outreach settings with an understanding of information assurance and safety in those settings.

You will need to demonstrate good people skills and an understanding of social problems facing vulnerable households who might feel lonely and isolated.

You will need good IT and telephone skills and the ability to use an online case management system to store and maintain case records.

Have a good, up-to-date understanding of the application of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion to the provision of advice.

You will be supporting clients using sensitive listening and questioning skills to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities. You will inform and support clients about a variety of issues relating to energy costs, including billing, payment methods, enforcement of arrears, and how to reduce energy usage and increase affordability through a range of income maximisation measures.

You will ensure the service is provided in accordance with contractual requirements and that individual and team targets are met.

Networking:

  • Develop links with relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies relevant to the role.
  • Use skills and competences to promote the organisation and foster good relationships with external organisations. Support NWCA at external events as required

  • Uphold the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice service and its equal opportunities policies.

  • Carry out any other tasks that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective provision of NWCA information and advice services.
